Impressed by the slick and competitive looking packaging on my friend Kevin’s CD, I inquired as to his manufacturer. He told me that Disc Makers was awesome. I decided right then and there that when it was time to release my own album I would go with Disc Makers. My CD Age/Occupation was my first solo release and it was a breeze. My designer had an easy time getting his art to the factory and the CDs came just in time for my January 2006 street date. The professional-quality posters were an incredible bonus and I used them to promote shows all over the country.
Age/Occupation really put me on the map. I had some songs featured on Veronica Mars, MTV shows, the FX channel and many other places. I have no doubt that my classy looking release was a big part of my getting played on KROQ and catching the ear of Stones producer Andrew Loog Oldham, who spun me on his Sirius radio show. The disc received fantastic reviews from the Village Voice and Time Out all the way to the UK where rock magazine Black Velvet took special notice and gave me a special feature. I toured hard behind the release which eventually brought me to the attention of established Canadian indie label Bongo Beat. When signing me they let me know my packaging and overall presentation was a big factor in making an impression on them. They quickly re-released the EP internationally.
Disc Makers was an integral factor in all this success. After selling out my initial run right before an East Coast tour, the helpful folks in New Jersey even sent special packages out to my publicist in Rhode Island to coincide with an important date at New York’s Knitting Factory.
