What if there was a stairway that more than two million people safely ascended each year? And what if almost every one of these people approached the stairway overcome with the fear that they would not safely get up those steps?
Welcome to the contemporary world of college admissions. Over two million high school students apply to college each year and get in, most to their first-choice schools. Yet their lives are consumed with anxious preparation to get into a good college, convinced that they won’t be one of the lucky ones to make it.
As a college professor of many years, I decided to make an independent film in which I ask current college students what they now know that they wish they had known when they were applying to colleges. Over the past two years, I have videotaped interviews with over a hundred students attending colleges all over the country, and what began as a project for just one video is growing into multiple titles full of insights and advice about the college admissions process for high school students and their parents.
Completely ignorant about video reproduction, I looked to Disc Makers for guidance on my first title, Time On: Planning a Successful Gap Year. Your staff provided clear answers to my questions about the options presented in the Disc Makers’ catalog. I now have a small library of titles on my web site, www.reelwisdom.com. These videos are regularly shown at schools and conferences. As I put the finishing touches on Find Your Fit: A Student’s Guide to Choosing Colleges Where You Will Succeed, Disc Makers will package a gorgeous DVD that I will feel good about sending to high schools around the country.
