Animal Liberation OrchestraIn an era where dance groups rarely sing and songwriters rarely rock the dance floor, the West Coast's ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra) is the rare combination of both worlds. Take one part Talking Heads, one part Elton John, and one part James Brown, stir swiftly, and watch the magic happen. This unique mixture of superb song crafting, instrumental prowess, infectious energy, and dance floor demolition has earned the band a fanatic following, and some heavy company. Jack Johnson, is just one of many world-class musicians who have lent their explicit support to the project (James Brown and String Cheese Incident are also big fans).

ALO caps off a year of extensive touring with the release of their fourth LP Fly Between Falls. Over the course of this ten-song set, ALO's four members apply the full force of the band's collective consciousness to weave quirky California soul with shape-shifting jams, introspective lyrics with sun-soaked funk, all infused with the uplifting vibe that ALO's ever growing legion of fans live for. Singer/surf-rider/superstar Jack Johnson lends his unmistakable voice to "Girl, I Wanna Lay You Down", an ALO song that he's been performing regularly on his 2003 and 2004 tours. By tossing "Girl" and other cleverly-crafted, radio-friendly tunes like "Barbeque" and "Spectrum" into the mix with psychedelic brain-splitters like "Shapeshifter" and "The Gardener", ALO leaves jam connoisseurs and pop consumers equally impressed.

ALO is the product of a 15-year musical partnership between childhood friends, Dan Lebowitz (guitar) Steve Adams (bass) and Zach Gill (keys-vocals). In the Fall of 2002, this core trio (aka, LAG) reunited with former band mate David Brogan, who occupied the drum throne in 1996 when the four spent their days in Georgia, jamming with members of the James Brown Band under the watchful eye of the Godfather of Soul himself. That Fall they returned home to Santa Barbara, christened themselves the Animal Liberation Orchestra, and have been astounding audiences ever since. ALO began its most extensive period of national touring in the summer of 2001 and has been packing venues around the country ever since. In addition to being selected as a "Band To Watch in 2004 by Jambase.com", ALO has been featured at festivals throughout the nation including High Sierra Music Festival, Jazz Aspen Snowmass, Health & Harmony Festival, Solfest, Joshua Tree Music Festival, and Baja Bash to name a few. Whether you're listening to the album or witnessing the live show, ALO is sure to release your inner animal.
