 In a few words, Gretchen's music can be defined as positive, heavy-melodic, happy-gothic, chic-rock. Their performances are as versatile as they are powerful, attacking the stage with heavy guitar, pop-driven melodies and high-energy emotions.
Even though Gretchen's sound has been described as a cross between Evanescence and Veruca Salt, they have forged a sound all their own, balancing catchy hooks and melodies with heavy guitar tones that give the music teeth without losing it's radio friendly edge. Gretchen is at home playing with "heavier" bands, but retains the ability to gel with more contemporary styled groups. Lead by vocalist/bassist Mia Richards, the trio hails from Bristol TN, which ironically and paradoxically is the Birth Place of Country music. But make no mistake about it, their sound is far from their Appalachian roots. This band is straight ahead rock with a touch of industrial influence and no operatic overtones!!
Gretchen has been touring the country; making appearances at well known festivals and events as well as being invited to play at the world renowned CBGB's.
Five songs from Gretchen's first CD "Mouth Full of Nails" have obtained international recognition; "Ordinary Girl", "Diamonds", and "Mouth Full of Nails" received honorable mention in Billboard's 12th Annual World Songwriting Contest (rock/alternative category). Ford Motor Company used the song "Star" in a Ford Ranger promotion. "Inclined" reached #2 on the world acoustic charts on mp3.com.
Gretchen's new CD, "In the Mean Time" was produced by Travis Wyrick; highly acclaimed for his work with the bands Pillar, POD, Copper, & Charlie Daniels and is currently available in stores nationwide.
