TreologicOn Thursday, May 12, Chicago's own Treologic brought their infectious blend of hip hop, gospel, and jazz to The Elbo Room and wowed the fans and IMWS judges on their way to winning the coveted $35,000 Grand Prize.

The Midwest IMWS showcase, which doubled as the grand opening party for Disc Makers' new Chicago office, featured a packed house and six outstanding independent artists from the Midwest.

Fans and music industry enjoyed an eclectic evening of indie music as they watched Treologic perform with Aubrey (Lawrence, KS), The Louie's (Ashton, IL), The Radio Hour (Chicago, IL), Jaded Era (Akron, OH), and Troubadours (Detroit, MI).

"We've played a lot of different showcases," said Treologic MC Billa Camp, "but none of them were this real. This show was all about the music. That's not always the way it is. This was a great night."

"This comes at the perfect time for us," commented drummer Justin Boyd after the show. "We've been going through a lot this past month. This was what we needed to give us a boost."

In an industry dominated by negative messages and materialistic attitudes, Treologic emerges as a beacon to hip-hop and one of the most exciting and sought after live acts to hit the Midwest in years. The philosophy of Treologic is to use a positive lyrical message with beautiful beats to ensure a feeling of euphoria into the audience every song, every show. The music is intelligent, the lyrics are conscious, and the experience leaves people speechless and elated, rejuvenated, and energized. Hardly fitting into one genre or style, the logic is to embrace the rich roots of Chicago hip-hop, gospel, and jazz. The lyrical styling of Billa Camp are a mix of new and old hip-hop, drawing influence from groups like Tribe Called Quest, NWA, Black Thought of the Roots, Jay-Z, Common Sense, Talib Kawli and Eminem. The sound that Justin Boyd, Anthony Massaro, and Lance Loiselle produce behind him is a chameleon: sounding somewhere between Soullive and Medeski Martin and Wood, often morphing into a breakbeat style or a hook produced by Scott Storch. Eric Koppa provides the 'icing' and sounds needed to complete the live sound with his intricate woodwinds and percussion. Veteran and former DMC Winner DJ Savage defines the sound with his scratching, sampling, beat drops, and production skills that give the music that true hip hop flava. However you define this new sound, you have the making of a legend that aims to change music as we listen to it.

Treologic's popularity is exploding in the Midwest through constant touring, promotion, and word of mouth. In and around Chicago, Treologic have been playing legendary venues and drawing huge crowds. Some of the venues include The Metro, The Double Door, Martyrs, The Subterranean, The Wild Hare, and The Note. Regularly traveling to central Illinois, Treologic has rocked shows at Jazz Central Station in Springfield, The Canopy Club in Champaign, Club Soda in Kalamazoo, Blind Pig in Ann Arbor, Thai Joes in Milwaukee, Grinnell College, University of Indianapolis, Bloomington Indiana, and breaking through to a wider audience - a world wide audience through persistence, hard work, and the amazing quality of the music, both live and recorded.
