UK born pianist, violinist and composer David Shenton has been writing music since the age of 9. His diverse output (of over 200 pieces) includes classical and musical theater works as well as numerous jazz compositions. From 1993 to 1997 David studied at the Royal College of Music in London from where he graduated with highest honors.
After graduating, David's work included orchestrating, arranging and composing at such places as Abbey Road & CTS Studios (London) as well as assisting musically on Hollywood, West End, Broadway & Off-Broadway productions.
In 1998, hearing Oscar Peterson for the first time on the radio inspired David to become a self-taught jazz musician. In December 2006 he was asked to open for Tony Bennett at the St. George Theatre, New York. David has since played at Birdland and other jazz clubs in New York. In April 2007 David was awarded the prestigious Back Stage Bistro Award for 'Best Piano Player/Entertainer' in New York and has since played over 200 gigs in both the USA and Europe.
David resides in Sunnyside, NY, with his wife, Erin, and their cat, Nika. His first solo album, Sunnyside Blues was released in 2007 and he is currently working on his second album to be released in 2008. |
