Growing up, Akeem was more of a writer than a music lover. He used his writing skills to gain acceptance from his peers to uplift his spirit of abandonment, depression, and frustration. Like many children, he was born into the ghetto, and as a child, he could not confide in anyone. He was searching for a voice, although he had little knowledge of what hip hop was all about. It would not sink in and overtake him until his eyes matched his ears.
When songs like Public Enemy’s “Don’t Believe the Hype,” Biggie’s “Juicy,” Tupac’s “Brenda Gotta Baby,” and Nas’ “If I Rule the World,” correlated with his community and living situation, he began instantly to zero in on his purpose of touching lives through music at the tender age of 13, after nomadic experiences.
In Virginia, he migrated to the metropolitan area with his family. He later met Shawn Foy in 2000 to form the now Hood City Entertainment, LLC. Akeem now holds the title of producer, songwriter, artist and president of the label. Under the newly formed label, 757’s first debut album, The Birth of a Legend was released in 2007. |
