Act of Congress

The 2008 Birmingham Music Award winner Act Of Congress has worked with Live Nation, opening VIP areas for artists such as John Mayer, Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, and Brooks and Dunn. Their debut album, Declaration, produced by Jason Elgin, (Collective Soul, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Lynam) and mastered by Rodger Lian (White Stripes, Deftones, Staind) is scheduled for a September 2008 release. AOC has been featured on the 90.3 "Tapestry" program, 102.5 The Bull, AL.com, CBS 42 News, Fox 6 Good Day Alabama, The Birmingham News, The Shelby Reporter, City Scene, Black and White, and was a finalist in the 2007 Cultural Alliance "Grants for Individual Artists" competition.

AOC is currently in the running for the 2008 Colgate Country Showdown. Because of their musical diversity (symphony, jazz, and bluegrass musicians) they have been a favorite at Birmingham venues such as Workplay and B&A Warehouse, as well as high profile weddings, festivals (City Stages, Do Doh Day, City Fest, Buck Creek, Compound Folk Fest, Earth Day), and corporate events over the last two years.

The Train Wrecks

The Train Wrecks

Savannah, GA’s Train Wrecks offer up raucous and rollicking Americana that’s as equally indebted to the traditionalist legacies of A.P. Carter and Johnny Cash as it is to the forward-thinking rock and roll of Wilco and Lucero. Local reviewers have been “blown away” by the band’s live shows, and the Wrecks have been officially dubbed “The Hardest Gigging Band in Savannah”, a testament to the love and dedication they have for their music.

In the fall of 2007, the band recently released their debut CD Whiskey & War, and the reviews are in! The Connect dubbed the record “Simply a revelation. The kind of simultaneously slick and raw record which Ryan Adams regularly cranks out to much critical acclaim,” while Murmur Magazine called it the “best record to come out of Savannah in years.”

The Train wrecks are: Jason Bible (guitar, voice, harmonica), Markus Kuhlmann (drums, voice, guitar), Eric Dunn (elec. bass, upright bass, voice), and Stuart Harmening (dobro, banjo, guitar).

Akeem Brodie AKA 757

Akeem Brodie AKA 757

Growing up, Akeem was more of a writer than a music lover. He used his writing skills to gain acceptance from his peers to uplift his spirit of abandonment, depression, and frustration. Like many children, he was born into the ghetto, and as a child, he could not confide in anyone. He was searching for a voice, although he had little knowledge of what hip hop was all about. It would not sink in and overtake him until his eyes matched his ears.

When songs like Public Enemy’s “Don’t Believe the Hype,” Biggie’s “Juicy,” Tupac’s “Brenda Gotta Baby,” and Nas’ “If I Rule the World,” correlated with his community and living situation, he began instantly to zero in on his purpose of  touching lives through music at the tender age of 13, after nomadic experiences.

In Virginia, he migrated to the metropolitan area with his family. He later met Shawn Foy in 2000 to form the now Hood City Entertainment, LLC. Akeem now holds the title of producer, songwriter, artist and president of the label. Under the newly formed label, 757’s first debut album, The Birth of a Legend was released in 2007.

Good Guys

Good Guys

Good guys were formed in New Orleans in 2004 by Tom Mclaughlin (guitars) and Jeremy Johnson (voice antics). They have since inducted a drummer (Kyle Sharamitaro), a bass player (Greg Smith), and a keyboard/trumpet player (Greg Beaman).

Their sound can be described as Lounge/Core, combining the softest elements of jazz and lounge with the clamoring of thick rock and metal.

Good Guys just finished their first full length album, The Social Engagement with Mike Napolitano (Blind Melon, Galactic, Twilight Singers) to produce what appears to be the most interesting and dynamic full length release, like, ever. It was released on June 14th.
