FM Revolver (San Diego, CA)

www.myspace.com/fmrevolver |
The summer of 2008 finds FM Revolver planted firmly in the midst of San Diego’s rock scene, on the verge of releasing their first full length independent release as a follow up to 2005’s Leaving Madeira EP. Building on the success of Leaving Madeira brings the band face to face with the beauty of musical evolution, with a sound developed and molded into a blend of progressive melodies, heart-wrenching lyrics, and crushing guitar lines.
“The band blends clean vocals, clean leads, interesting time changes and melodies with crunchy guitars…The singer is serious and born to be a star. He reminded us all that you can be heavy and atmospheric, yet sing clean the whole set.” –Stacy Rugely, SDMM Correspondent
FM Revolver is: Josh Carley (vocals), Aaron Dablow (guitar), Chris Nordby (guitar), Andy Platfoot (bass), Mike Paz (drums). |
Hey Mister (Las Vegas, NV)
www.myspace.com/heymisterlv |
It’s really no surprise that Kane Churko, Hey Mister’s young songwriter and singer, turns out such well-crafted gems that defy his lean years. His father is Kevin Churko, whose production work can be heard on albums by Shania Twain, The Corrs, and Ringo Starr. The elder Churko – who produced, co-wrote and engineered Ozzy Osbourne’s Black Rain album – co-produced and engineered Hey Mister’s debut EP, Buy! Borrow! Steal!
According to Churko, the inspiration for the band’s name came from the beloved 1964 Beatles film, A Hard Day’s Night. “There's a scene where the guys are running alongside a train shouting, "Hey Mister! Hey Mister! Can we have our ball back? I guess that left an impression on me, as ‘Hey Mister’ was the first band name that came to mind. I was surprised that no other Beatles-loving band had used it already.” |

The Shook Twins (Sandpoint, ID)
www.shooktwins.com |
The Shook Twins themselves, Katelyn and Laurie, have been creating music for the past five years and playing live for three. They’ve since been joined by bassist Kyle Volkman, cellist Lane Exworthy, and percussionist Colin Duclos. Laurie sings and plays the banjo, guitar, ocarina (clay flute), slide, and face drum (beat boxing). Katelyn mostly sticks to the guitar, and is the one who has written most of the original Shook Twins material. Both switch off singing main melodies while the other sings harmony.
“While the Shook Twins describe themselves as "acoustic, indie, folk, pop," the pop label clearly no longer fits. With the help of Producer/Engineer Brody Bergholz, the Twins have created a deeper, multi-layered sound which manages to acknowledge disappointment and heartbreak with out going over-the-top and becoming just another self-satisfied ‘dark’ album.” –John Reuter, The Sandpoint Reader |
