Common Questions & Issues
[±] Do I need an ISRC code?
No. An ISRC code (International Standard Recording Code) is not required to be encoded on your CD, but a field is provided if you have a code you'd like to use or if you have had a code assigned in the past.
[±] Do I need CD-Text? Does it need to be completely filled out?
No, you do not have to provide CD-Text information and you may fill out only some of the CD-Text fields if desired. CD-Text information such as Song Title, Artist, and Performer is encoded onto your replicated CDs and will be displayed by CD players that are capable of reading the CD-Text information. CD-Text information will NOT show up in iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc.
[±] Do I need to burn a test CD?
No, it is not necessary for you to burn a test CD, however it is recommended. Burning a test CD and thoroughly proofing it will ensure that your final replicated CDs will sound exactly as you want them to and that no unwanted glitches or noises were introduced in the CD copying process. Playing back the entire program in the Master Uploader App software is also a good way to proof your audio.
[±] Where can I find instructions for the Master Uploader App?
The instructions can be found
here. The instructions are also available in the Master Uploader App under the "Help" menu.
[±] Can I upload multiple masters for a multi-CD set?
Yes. After copying your CD master using the Master Uploader App you can select the "Multi-disc" radio button. Prior to uploading you will be asked which disc of the Multi-disc set you are uploading.
[±] Can I use the MUA if I'm uploading content to be mastered by The SoundLAB at Disc Makers?
Yes. The files created by the Master Uploader App can be used by The SoundLAB at Disc Makers for your mastering project.
[±] Is there any loss of quality when using the MUA to upload my master to Disc Makers?
No. The master created by the MUA is CD quality, 16-bit/44.1K. The audio quality will be identical to your CD master.
[±] I burnt a test CD, then noticed there was CD-Text that I needed to change, however I am unable to edit the fields.
After burning a test CD all of the CD-Text fields are "locked". If you need to make any edits to these fields after burning a test CD you will need to start the process again, beginning with Step 1, Copy CD.
[±] What do I do if I receive a warning that I need to change the sample rate of my soundcard or my audio is
playing back too fast?
The Master Uploader App locks to the sample rate your default audio device (sound card) is set to. If this sample rate is different than 44.1K your audio may play back at a different speed, typically it will sound faster. To correct this you will need to change the sample rate of your default audio device. On a Windows machine this is typically found in the Control Panel under “Hardware and Sound” or “Sound”. Select the default device from the list of installed audio devices and in the properties change the sample rate to “CD Quality” or 44.1K.
[±] Why did I receive a “timeout” error during the upload process?
Occasionally during long uploads the connection between your computer and our servers can be interrupted. If this happens you will need to start the upload process again. If the upload fails on subsequent attempts you may need to try your upload using a different, faster internet connection.
[±] Why do I receive an error, "Upload failed (at start/before it took off)"?
This error typically occurs if the FTP port on your network is being blocked. This could be the result of an IT department policy, a router, or firewall software. The FTP port will need to be unblocked before you can successfully upload using the Master Uploader App, or you will need to try from a different network.
[±] I received an error after copying my master CD into the Master Uploader App software. "non ISO 8859-1 character(s)
in CD text"
One of the characters in a CD-Text field on your master CD is causing this issue. This can usually be corrected by deleting all of the CD-Text that was imported during the Copy CD step and re-entering it in the Master Uploader App. Creating a new master CD with no CD-Text encoded and copying that into the Master Uploader App is another option.
[±] Why is there 2-seconds of silence before Track #1 after I copy my CD into the Master Uploader App?
The 2-seconds present before Track #1 is normal and is part of the CD specification, known as the "pre-gap". This will NOT result in 2-seconds of silence on your final CDs. Also, if you have ISRC codes the code for Track #1 will appear on the "pre-gap" line.
